My employer in Pakistan
has not paid me
Wages that stopped, a dismissal without notice, a contract that was never honoured. For a private employer in Pakistan there is a labour route, and it is separate from the ordinary courts. This page is about the shape of it.
Where this applies This page covers private employment in Pakistan. Government employment is on the page about service matters. Work in the country you live in is a matter for that country.
What this is about
Labour law in Pakistan is largely provincial, and each province has its own labour courts and its own rules on notice, wages and dismissal. What they share is the idea that an employer who does not pay, or dismisses without cause, can be taken to a labour court.
The first question an advocate asks is what kind of worker you were, because the rules differ between a workman and a manager, and between a contract and a permanent post.
What has to be in place
What has to be clear.
Where you worked, and for whom.
What you were owed and for which period.
Whether there is a written contract or appointment letter.
Note Your advocate confirms which of these apply to your case.
The documents you will be asked for
What an advocate asks for.
- The appointment letter or contract.
- Pay slips, or bank records of what was paid.
- The dismissal letter, if there is one.
- Your identity document and a power of attorney.
How an advocate helps from where you are
What an advocate does.
- Tells you which court in your province, and what can be claimed.
- Sends the notice, and files the claim.
- Recovers the wages ordered.
What to ask before you agree
- Which court in this province, and what can be claimed?
- Does it matter that there was no written contract?
- How will you recover the wages once they are ordered?
- What do you need from me, and by when?
- What is your fee, and what is not included in it?
