I was stopped at the airport,
or my passport is blocked
Some people learn of it at the departure gate. A name on the exit control list, a passport that will not clear, a case nobody told them about. This page shows what these are, who decides, and how an advocate gets the name removed or the block lifted.

What this is about
The exit control list is kept by the interior ministry. A name goes on it at the request of a court, an agency or a department, usually because of a case, a debt to the state or an investigation. A blocked passport or identity card is a different thing, done by the office that issued it, often because of a dispute about who the person is or a report against them. Both stop you at the airport, and both can be challenged.
For someone who lives abroad the danger is the trip home. You land, you attend to whatever brought you, and at the airport on the way out you are stopped. An advocate can find out before you travel whether anything stands against your name, which is the cheapest legal work you will ever pay for.

The documents you will be asked for
The papers an advocate asks for.
- Your passport and identity card.
- Anything you were given at the airport, or any letter from an office.
- The papers of any case or report you know of in your name.

- Applies to the ministry or the office for removal, with the papers that answer the reason.
- Where that is refused or too slow, files in the high court to have the listing set aside.
